Getting a Malaysian student visa might seem complicated β but it is actually one of the most straightforward student visa processes in Asia. This guide walks you through every step, what documents you need, how long it takes, and what to expect after approval.
Malaysia has a 98% student visa approval rate when documents are correctly prepared. Most rejections happen because of missing or incorrect paperwork β something ENGLISHWAY ACADEMY handles for all our students.
Malaysia uses a centralized system called EMGS (Education Malaysia Global Services) to process all international student visas. Your university submits your application through EMGS on your behalf β you cannot apply directly.
Once EMGS approves your application, you receive a VAL (Visa Approval Letter) or eVAL (electronic Visa Approval Letter) which you use to enter Malaysia. After arriving, you convert this into a Student Pass β the actual visa sticker in your passport.
Before any visa process begins, you must have an official Offer Letter from a Malaysian university. This is the foundation of your entire visa application. ENGLISHWAY ACADEMY obtains this for you after you select your university and program.
Your university will submit a list of required documents to EMGS. These typically include:
The university submits your application to EMGS online. You will receive a tracking number to monitor your application status at emgs.com.my. ENGLISHWAY ACADEMY tracks this on your behalf and updates you immediately on any changes.
EMGS reviews your application. During this period they may request additional documents. Processing time varies by country and application volume. Saudi Arabian and Yemeni passports typically take 4β6 weeks. Iraqi and Egyptian passports may take 6β8 weeks.
Once approved, you receive your Visa Approval Letter by email. This document allows you to enter Malaysia as a student. It is valid for 3β6 months from the date of issue β you must enter Malaysia within this period.
Present your VAL at immigration on arrival. ENGLISHWAY ACADEMY picks you up from the airport. Within the first week, you must complete a mandatory medical check-up at an approved clinic β we accompany you to this appointment.
After your medical check-up, the university processes your Student Pass at Malaysian Immigration. This is the actual visa sticker placed in your passport, valid for the duration of your program (typically 1β4 years). We accompany you to the immigration office if needed.
Academic certificates from Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, and Egypt may need to be officially translated to English and sometimes attested. ENGLISHWAY ACADEMY handles this through our certified translation partners β do not attempt to translate documents yourself as unofficial translations will be rejected.
